SEPTEMBER 24, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, ON – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, issued the following statement on the Mid-Autumn Festival:
“This evening, Canadians of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese descent will celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival! “This holiday is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the traditional East Asian lunar calendar, when the moon is at its roundest and brightest.
“Dating back centuries, this celebration is associated with fertility, rejuvenation, and to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest.
“Tonight, many Canadians with Asian backgrounds will gather with their families and loved ones under the full moon to light beautiful lanterns, exchange gifts and stories, and share traditional foods.
“The Mid-Autumn Festival is a great example of Canada’s rich cultural diversity, celebrated by so many communities of different origins across our whole country.
“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!”
